I've been playing tennis for 2 years. My serve, forehand are very good. l can hit topspin my forehand. Problem is l have ALWAYS used a backhand slice. My backhand slice is very powerful compared to other members on the team because of that lol...but l wanna learn how to do a topspin one handed backhand. l tried using 2 hands...uncomfortable for me. anyone with great tennis skills have any info on how to hit a good one handed backhand? tips? motion, form, position, how to practice it..anything helps. thx a bunch guys.

keep ur eye on the ball

l use to do this too, just like you. l always had a one handed backhand, but l originally used a backspin slice for my backhand. It was pretty good but l knew l had to learn topspin.

What l originally did is watch how federer did it, & copied his form. This is probably what u should do.

Make sure u learn the preparation to the stroke, where u bring the racquet back, & hold the v with ur left hand. Then Swing through it in the same motion federer does. Practice this a ton, & u will eventually get it. Make sure u have a more controlled racquet. Because l use to never be able to get it with a less controlled racquet, but when l upgraded l could get it all the time.

when u get more advanced, make sure u relax ur arm in the preparation, & then just explode through the ball. That will give u some nice pace.

my best shot was the topspin backhand; how l developed it? just watching many many hours on tapes: gabriela sabatini, then l would go to the court and try to copy..in my case what helped me was havin an extreme one-handed backhand grip (just like gabriela) and do not forget to bend your knees a lot!!!

It is tough to tell u but l am going to give it a shot. Low to high is key in getting topspin. If u have a fast swing u can start by taking ur racquet back at shoulder level & looping it down below the level of the hitting zone & striking or brushing the back of the ball finishing high again. Your palm although closed with a racquet in ur hand should be facing you. Or u should be able to see the inside of ur arm after rolling over the ball. Unlike a slice where ur palm finishes down & away from you. You want to be rolling over or brushing the ball as u r hitting up. If u have a slower swing u can start with the racquet waist level or lower & hit up in the same way brushing the back of the ball. Other key elements r weight transfer, stepping into the shot & creating balance with ur off arm. Hope this is not too confusing & u r able to start getting some topspin off the backhand.

well, u should practice ur two-hand. many people r starting to beat federer because of his one-hand backhand. the ppl that beat him r mostly ppl that use 2 hand-ed backhand. the stroke for the 2 & 1 r almost the same. except that the one hand ends upward while the two r the side. with the 2 handed backhand, more power, spin & consistence. However the reach of the 2 handed is limited. the one hand goes from down to up(from 7:00-1:00 with a windshill wipers.) hopes this help

If u r prone to hitting a slice on the backhand then it is most likely the angle of ur stroke however not changing to a backhand grip can be a factor too.

A little tip u might try: When u take a swing on the backhand side hold the raquet with 2 hands as if u were going to do a two-handed backhand. While setting up for the shot try to think of it as a forehand shot done with ur wrong hand. Let ur wrong hand guide the face of the raquet & steer the swing just as u would do on ur forehand side. In this sense u r mirroring ur strong topspin forehand stroke with ur wrong hand on the backhand side.

Just before connecting with the ball let ur wrong hand go of the raquet & continue the follow through with ur dominant hand to complete the one-handed backhand. To put topspin on the ball u will find that u need a tiny bit of wrist flick upwards at the moment of contact, like throwing a frisbee.

After a bit of practice with this method u will soon get to the point that u do not really feel the need to grip or guide the raquet at all with ur wrong hand. You may at this point just want to lightly hold the raquet or touch the frame with that hand during the swing set up to get a feel for how the raquet is positioned.

If every time u set up for a swing on the back hand side & think of it as a wrong-handed forehand then it may help train ur swing to be more powerful & similar to the strokes you're already able to do on the forehand side. Good luck!

Forget for backhand slice and start to train flat backhand. Leave enough space betwen your body and ball contact point. Move forward your body when you strike and climb over the ball. When you can place the ball with satisfied precission you can put topspin. To put topspin is easy only brush with wirst atd the end of shot. This will improve significant your game.

well first off the strike zone is way different from a 2 hander so switching around wont help. With a one hander u got to hit it in front of u & get ur rist moving some on it to gain spin. bend ur nees & get ur raquet below the ball. The good thing about one handers is u have farther reach but the bad things r that its hard to hit a high ball, returning serves r hard with it, And u have to slice alot still with a one hander if u dont move ur feet enouph & if the ball is to hard. REALLY AND TRULY IF A ONE HANDER DOESNT WORK OUT GO TO 2 HANDER. EASIER TO RETURN SERVES AND U HAVE WAY MORE CONTROL ON THE BALL 2. HOPE THIS HELPS =)
